At our workshop last night we had a request to post all of the cleaning tips we could find that were all natural, non-toxic and frugal!
Chrissy and I use nothing but common household ingredients for cleaning. I honestly didn't think it could be done but once I tried it I was a believer!
Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and will eat through basic gunk (even dog slobbery windows!), baking soda and lemon juice will help cut tough grease and grime, salt will soak up stains in many kitchen appliances, olive oil will poilish your wood and hydrogen peroxide will help whiten whites and soften your sweaters in the wash!
Here are the ONLY items we use to clean with:
- Vinegar
- Baking Soda
- Lemon Juice
- Salt
- Olive Oil
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- coffee filters and cleaning rags
Last week for Simple Solutions Saturday we posted a list of things you can clean with vinegar!
Come back this Saturday for the next installment of Simple Solutions Saturday! Our topic will be household cleaning with baking soda!
Here is a post from a few weeks ago about why we clean with these products, and here for disposing of your commercial products properly!

I love love love cleaning with those items! My hubby hates the vinegar smell, but I have been told to mix a little bit of essential oils in with the vinegar and it smells so much better. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tips!
Going to have to give a few a try!
So what do you use to clean the tub? (The thing I hate cleaning most in the bathroom is the tub. So I shell out for chemicals that allow for less scrubbing and .) Do you use baking soda and lemon juice there? (and for those of us newbies to the idea - how do you use them? Mix them together?)
I quit buying most commercial cleaning products about a year ago, and have not looked back. My vinyl floors are much cleaner with vinegar and water than they ever where with pine-sol.
I do buy borax, however, for laundry, and keep a can of Lysol around for the convenience of spry-on disinfectant.
mama russell-
The essential oil give me a headache-but I know lot of people love using them to get rid of the vinegar smell!

I use baking soda for the tub-I will let it sit for about 15 mins before I scrub it. I then wipe it down with a vinegar and water mix.
I make my husband do the tub, lucky me!!! He's a better scrubber than I am :) He does exactly what Chrissy said...and I usually do a second wipe down to get the last bit of film left. Baking soda is hard to rinse completely the first time. We only have to do this once every coupls of weeks.
I love cleaning with vinegar and baking soda. I hadn't heard about the uses for peroxide before - I'll have to try that!
I blogged about your wonderful suggestions for cleaning naturally! Excellent post! Love it!
